I sometimes recieve email scams in my yahoo email box. I heard that anything that you do on the internet can be traced with your IP address.

Actually the police do care about email scams.

Also, depending on what the scam has to do with you can report it to the company involved. e.g. I got an email supposedly from my bank asking to verify information. Printed off a copy and took it into the bank. Turns out their security & the police have been monitoring the emails going out to the banks customers as they were definitely fraudulent. Banks will never ask you for personal information over the interent.
