Philanthropy is another way to say tax break. The people you mention are people with way too much money that have realised they have far more than they can spend and are spreading their wealth about. They could pay their employees better and add to benefits. Their giving also makes them feel good and look good. Oprah could aid a few schools in the U.S. while she is at it and all of the above mentioned could do more for health care and alleviating hunger worldwide.
