Its possible that the person has low self esteem. Try talking to the person. Low sefl esteem is caused by not enough positive influence and attention. you know how people are always saying oh their just trying to get attention well maybe they need it but they are just going for the wrong kind of attention ( bad attention) just try giving them positive attention. they need it. Try giving your friend another chance people can change. Good luck to both you and your friend.

People in general lie for a number of reasons.
If they are a true friend they would not lie to you at all.
Even if they are trying to spare your feelings. Friends should be open a honest with one another.
If it is a vindictive lie from your friend, they maybe they are not worth having around.
If they are trying to help explain to them that you would of prefered to hear the truth.
A true friend would understand.

Simple answer to this is, REAL friends dont lie to you, casual friends might for several reasons, possibly in order to prevent you feeling hurt if you ask their opinion on something like, "why did she dump me" or even as simple as "does my bum look big in this?", but a true friend will be able to tell you the truth without it hurting, no matter what is said, as you should be able to be honest to them.

If they lie to you then they are not your friend, unless they are trying to protect you from something that might hurt you.

so you dont get hurt, in their eyes, but then no matter the situation real friends will never lie to you no matter what.
Wich is why real friends are nearlly almost impossibe to find.

real friends don't lie, my friends are always completly honest with me even if it may hurt a little, but i trust them.
