February 1st 2007. Price depends on class of seat. Tourist class goes up to £10 from £5. Long haul from £20 to £40 and Club/First goes up from £40 to £80. Most airlines insist you pay before the day you fly. You can't just pay the extra at check-in. Call your airline if you are not sure.

Hello,

(ANS) YES! there has been a large amount of confusion about all the changes made to air passenger duty (tax). Gordon Brown introduced these changes in parilament on the 6th Dec 2006.

Whats happening is that the airlines themselves have caused much of this confusion by starting to charge or apply this tax retrospectively (hence the problems). Meaning that if you bought an ailine ticket even before the 6th Dec 06 some airlines are making customers still pay this tax (even if you didnt know about it), anyone who buys a ticket after the 6th Dec 06 was hit for the taxes too.

**Basically most of the airlines, especially the low cost carriers like EasyJet & Ryan Air now have a policy of pay up or we will refuse to fly you.

**Even though the tax doesnt come into effect until 1st Feb 07, its all about ensuring airlines dont loose out on their profits.
