Hypothetically, of course, what is it that brings about the so-called "Armageddon". It's only a matter of probability and time before a huge meteor crashes down cracking the earth to it's core, the fuel supply of our sun depletes before one last final, Pluto ain't a planet no more, Bang, madmen with bombs cause global full-scale nuclear holocaust. Or what....what do you know will happen? What is your answer to ..."How does the story end?"

For my part, I'm betting on an environmental reset somewhere in the next 50 years or so, along the lines of Day After Tomorrow, only it won't be over in a few weeks. A few of us probably will survive, but that will be it for this civilization.
In the shorter term, I see a major struggle between rich and poor (nations and individuals) looming as resources become more scarce. I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I see the so-called "War on Terror" as the first phase of this, the current conflicts being motivated by oil.
