Well there is the lack of responsibility for what you say here on the Internet, no one feels they have to act within boundary's and cross them and jump right to their reason for talking. Many things are also said in chat rooms that wouldn't be said in e-mail, but even e-mail is easy to unload on a person and just hit "send" and forget about it.

you've answered your own question, its cos you cant do stuff like that in person, in a chat room, there's no way of rewarding them with a slap, and verbally telling them they're out of order will just be ignored!!
