I don't know about a legal age, but I think what is more important than that is the maturity level of the child. Kids are not all the same even though they may be the same age. I think before leaving a child at home alone, you need to be sure that they are ready for it mentally and are mature enough to handle a situation if need be. Also, some kids are afraid to be left alone but don't want to be seen as childish or immature for their age. I think the best bet is to talk to the child first and see how they feel about it and if they are truly ready and comfortable. It may be different ages for different kids.

i don't think there is a minimum age to leave a child during the day. It depends on the maturity of the child. But personally, i wouldn't be happy leaving my 12 year old son home alone all day. He'd be ok for a few hours but no longer than that. If you mean leaving a child overnight, then that is a totally different matter.

Im in Cali, and there isnt a specific age (I called the police and asked once). But the child/children have to be old enough to understand and be able to respond to emergencies. And, of course, it depends on how long you leave them alone.
I wouldnt do it with any child under the age of 13.

Depends on where you live, and for what length of time ?

For just a few hours, I would not leave anyone under 13, and that would depend on their maturity level. For like all day while you are away, again, about 13-14, and overnight they would have to be at least 17 and very mature!!

Call your state DCFS office and ask. I was told by the DCFS office in the state that I lived in that some 10 year olds are mature enough to be left alone and some 15 year olds aren't. It all depends on the child.

legally to leave a child home on his/her own they should be sixteen, likewise, legally in order to babysit the person should be sixteen years or older, as according to law they cannot be responsible persons until this age.
