If these lights are low voltage halogen then the transformer must be suitable for dimming and the dimmer suitable for transformers.
The effect you are getting suggests that they are not suited.

When you replaced the switch for a dimmer did you replace the back box for a 25mm one as well?
If not that could also affect your dimmer causing it to make a buzzing noise.
Have you checked your connections are correct on the light fitting? Make sure they are not loose.
If that does not work suggest take it back and get another.
If that also does the same then you should get an electrician to have a look at it.

If the light fitting buzzes it's the transformer, if the switch buzzes it's the radio interference suppression coil.

if you go for a cheap dimmer they often buzz when you turn the dimmer down - in my experience go for a quality dimmer expect to pay £40 and you should find them better.

If the buzz is not very loud, and occurs mainly when you turn the light down low, it's normal.

Sounds like a loose connection or faulty component somewhere - there shouldn't be any noise.
You really should get a professional electrician to check it out as it could make something live and therefore cause either your fuse box to blow or run the risk of electrocution.
