My boss will not let us use uppercase to do our headings in our print brochure. He read in an article somewhere that you are never to use uppercase in print. Can you find any articles that contradict that? Basically can you find me articles that support my choice to use uppercase in our print brochure?

Thanks, 10 Points to whoever gets the article from the most credible source,
Chad

Your boss is right -- to an extent. APA style does not allow for the use of ALL CAPS and/or formatting such as italics, bold, etc.on the cover page of a research essay intended for publication in a journal or book for professionals in fields such as psychology, sociology, etc. Many students, these days are taught APA style in college. Your boss is probably one of them. However, there are other styles -- equally respected as the APA -- such as the MLA, that DO allow the use of ALL CAPS on the cover page. Moreover, the rules of MLA, APA, and Chicago apply only in academic settings. Each profession has its own variation of these 3 basic styles (for instance, interior designers have to follow a very different style manual from any of the big 3) and some professions (such as advertising) have no style manual at all.

I am a college English teacher and I teach various style manuals.
