You know how when you go to the yahoo website, your user name is remembered? This is because Yahoo put a small file on your computer called a cookie when you clicked the box to 'remember me'. Cookies are really good for this kind of stuff and are defined to 'personalize and enhance the user experience'. In other words, you can setup custom web pages that are unique only to you - like my yahoo.

Also in addition to the above, if you delete the cookies, you will have to sign into the site when you go back. If it one that you don't use often, delete the cookie for it. That way anyone else using your computer can't access that site under your name as you have the password.
