It does not matter, and I am not guilty. If they are a nice person, they could be purple for all I care. I do not date, however, I am married.

I am a lighter skinned African American, and my husband is darker. It was his dark skin that I found so attractive when I first saw him some 23 years ago in Jr. High school. We are still together, happily married, with 2 beautiful children. I don't think it's a form of self-hatred; I just think it's a matter of personal preference...some women are attracted to tall men, some are attracted to skinny men, etc. I just happen to find dark skin attractive. To me, it's no different than a white woman being attracted to a white man because he has a nice tan. We all know that you can't judge a person's character by the way he looks, but if you are attracted to that person's looks then you're more likely to get to know that person beyond his exterior. So to answer your question ~ No, I am not guilty of colorism.

Hi..I think I am guilty if I am understanding your question right. I tan in the summer because I think it looks healthy to be darker skin toned. Often times people think "pale" is "sick." I don't know if "colorism" is meant to be visa versa..but in my case it is. It probably doesn't matter much to someone that is in love their chosen one's skin color. At the same time when choosing a partner we all have preferences. It may pertain to color(eyes, hair, build, etc.) People just prefer certain things.Someone may be looking for something different(money, social status, popularity, etc.) Personally I don't think any of that matters in the end though. It's just about finding your place and desires in the world and being happy with them.No one else judges you as much as you judge yourself.

You are guilty of colorism, Kelly. Defining colorism as a preference for lighter color skin is like saying only white people can be racist. There are people who act based on a preference for dark skin, it's just not PC to say so.

I agree w/ Russell 100%. And what some people call racism or hatred, others, like myself, call it preference. Personally, I prefer dark headed men w/ light eyes over blondes. But my husband is a blonde. Do I hate him? No. I love him bit still think dark hair on men and women is beautiful despite my bright red curly hair. As far as blacks, society as a whole does prefer the lighter skinned blacks. Even blacks themselves prefer it. Look at every black woman that is considered beautiful. Name one that is as black as coal. For every one, if you can name one, there's at least 3 that are light skinned.

No, I honestly don't care about anyone's color. It's just a color, it doesn't matter.
