Every year during college football season the argument returns concerning going to a playoff system. What do you think? What's the problem for BCS with making the switch?

the BCS committee is very opposed to having a playoff just for the mere fact that they feel a great sum of money will be lost, I disagree!!! Playoff games would generate a great deal of money and since I do believe in tradition, all bowl games should still be played. There would be no loss in revenue and we finally would have an undisputed national champion every year. Last year's Texas team was the only one I remember since the conception of the BCS.

Whether the members of the BCS want to face it or not a playoff is the only way there will ever be a guaranteed national champion, however in their defense devising a playoff that would be fair to all teams might be a little tough though. An 8 team playoff may seem fair on the surface but if all remember Boise State, the nation's only undefeated team this year was ranked number 9! So we would still have that bit of contreversy from time to time. 12 teams would open the doors a little more but however that means there would be 4 wild-card teams, and how do we decide who those 4 teams would be? anything above 12 or 16 teams would be time consuming, and we have to remember the guys on the field are students, full-time college students that have classes to attend. So here is my suggestion:

36 teams will be eligible to qualify for the playoffs

the playoffs will be in a 12 team bracket

teams 1-4 will be given a first round bye

the remaining 32 teams will qualify for the 8 wild card spots by playing an overtime series vs their coresponding seed such as number 5 vs number 36, 6 vs 35, 7 vs 34, 8 vs 33 etc, therefore each wild card team will win 2 overtime series

I think that the NCAA should go to a playoff system so that certain fans will stop complaining that they were unfairly snubbed by the BCS Championship committee. For example, Michigan felt that it deserved a spot in the National Championship game. They did lose to USC in the Rose Bowl by 32-18, but a Playoff would definitely prove which team was superior. By having the big conference teams play the small conference teams in an NFL playoff like bracket, teams would not feel like they were being snubbed because they would all feel that they had a chance to go out and win the National Championship. Once a team is eliminated, they will not feel snubbed at all because their fate was in their own hands but they failed to take advantage. A Playoff system does have some disadvantages, though. Teams might feel like they were cheated if they felt like they got a lower seed than they deserved. You could probably solve this problem by just basing the seeding off the USA Today or AP rankings.

I feel strongly that NCAA Football should go to a play-off system. Nearly every year, there are more than two teams that have a legitimate right to play for the National Championship. This year's undefeated Boise State team, Auburn's 2004 team that went undefeated in the toughest conference in the nation, and several others. Even when LSU and USC had a "split" National Championship, before the official "National Championship" game was instated, Matt Leinert notoriously wore a t-shirt that said, "F*ck the BCS" to an interview on ESPN.

The system is flawed. It's time for an 8 or even a 16 team playoff. It works in the NFL. It works for NCAA Basketball. It just plain works. And when the current system doesn't work, it simply makes sense to switch to a proven system that does.

A playoff is DESPERATELY needed but will never happen because the NCAA doesn't want to let go of the "relationships" they have with the bowls. Thing is, if the BCS system is used as a playoff formula, who says that the BCS bowl sites couldn't be used as playoff sites? the other bowls could go on as always, everyone would make money and be happy! Oh well, what do I know? I'm just a fan.

I hope some day the NCAA will finally learn from there mistakes and use a playoff. I would keep the BCS but have a eight team playoff with all of the major conforence champions and then three wildcard teams based on where they are in the BCS.

How ever many teams are in the play offs, first time Notre Dame misses playoffs it will be flawed. So as long as one slot is open for ND it might work with 4 teams or 8 teams. I prefer 8 teams and 2 divisions. Purists of College Football like to chat about somebody got dissed.so they don't switch.

What really doesn't make any sense to me is how USC only dropped in the BCS from #2 to #5 after losing to Oregon State, who finished with a record of 9 - 4, and to UCLA, finishing at 7 - 5. That's not even mentioning that they almost were beaten by Washington State, Washington and Arizona State. Logically speaking they should have dropped out of the top 10.

There should be playoffs. Bowl games are not fair to some teams because many teams have very good records but dont play in good bowl games due to that number of good teams. Also teams have to wait extened periods of time til they get to play. The reason why the BCS probably doesnt want to switch is because they make so much money off of bowl games. They are probably scared that going to playoffs will make them less money.

I think that a playoff would determine the best team to play for the National Championship. You had teams like Boise State who went undefeated but never even broke the Top 10 until the end of the season. I think they should have been able to play Florida for a chance to face Ohio State in the Championship. It happens every year. The BCS has their favorites and that is who plays in the better bowl games.

As a Canadian, I don't really understand the current voting system. Scheduling is a huge issue...toughness of etc. I
like the idea of allowing for the fact that teams improve over the course of a season and can gain momentum. So playoffs make sense. I hope it gets done,
