My dad over the past three years have had alsorts of problems with his bowels. His faeces have either been constantly runny (which turned out to be a side effect to his medication). He has had unexplained pains which the doctors have looked into but can find nothing wrong.

He now gets a shooting pain in his tummy if he puts any pressure in the area and he is only able to pass faeces the width of a pen. He was ment to see his doctor this morning about this but he cancled as he is terrified they will give him a Barium Meal. Hes had one before and it made him really constipated. He fears that if they give him another it will kill him this time.

Can ANYONE please help me?

ANY ideas would be helpful or any doctors who may know what the problem is? None of our doctors seem to have a clue???

Is he lactose intolerant??? My faeces were the same until I finally worked out I was lactose intolerant. Total freedom now....

Well sort of, freedom without lactose means no chocolate, but nothings worse than chronic constipation and a stream of medical professional and test after test after test that are all fruitless. Doctors were totally useless with me too.

Change his milk to an alternative like soy - nutty taste, or rice milk - really sweet, avoid cheese, ice-cream, yoghurt, cream, even candies have lactose in them. Also, make sure your milk alternative is calcium/iron enriched.

Good Luck

Cheers

Honey, your dad could be suffering from several things. IBS is certainly one of them; my sister has it. It could be that, a bowel obstruction, ulcerative colitis, diverticulosis, or even Crohn's disease. I was very surprised to hear that barium was used on him; that is not used very often these days. The normal thing nowadays is to clean him out and do a full endoscopy to see what the problem is, not just a barium swallow. He needs to see a specialist called a gastroenterologist. Since I don't know where you live, I can't recommend a hospital, but most major cities have reputable hospitals with medical help lines. It sounds like you need to go with your dad to the doctor and be his advocate and ask questions. Write down what you want to ask and if your doctor is rushed or won't answer or doesnt' know what to do, find another one. Also, you can't be forced to have tests you don't want...if he doesn't want to do another barium swallow, don't let them make him! Good luck!

well i am not a dr but it sounds like he might have a bowelobstruction of some kind, only way they will find it is with either the barium or a colonoscopy though, best bet would probably be to check the whole intestine to see where the problem is. maybe he needs to get of the medication tht causes someof it and get put onone tht doesn't give him that sideeffect, but they still need to check. stools r in liquidforn in the snall intestine and get firmer inthe large intestine so somewhere there is a problem , and him not passing anything bigger than a pencil sounds like an obstruction in colonarea, could be something as easy as hemhorroids but could be worse things as well. if his stools r dark or black could be a sign of blood and def. an alarmsignal

Maybe he has appendicitus - I know the doctors took ages to diagnose me having it, but operated never-the-less just in time. I guess you need more details than you gave... I provide a link to diseases of the bowel. These do seem difficult to diagnose.
Collagenous Colitis and Lymphocytic Colitis is one possibility - get hom to cut out dairy products, coffee and fatty products from his diet and see how that works. If he is a smoker stopping smoking will also help..

i imagine you want to the contact a criminal professional and performance your dad's very last desires reviewed. If the medical doctors made the alternative to end your father's existence without route out of your father or his power of criminal professional, they stepped out of bounds. it truly is truthfully grounds for a plausible malpractice in structure. Did he favor to proceed to be on existence help to lengthen his existence? After my grandfather had a stroke, he did not receive some thing by a feeding tube, only morphine to make him extra tender. yet he became braindead, so it he became definately lengthy gone and the alternative became made to enable him bypass (by the relations, no longer the medical doctors). My aunt died from the organic procedure lung maximum cancers virtually 2 years in the past. no man or woman except the affected man or woman, or if the affected man or woman is unable to make the alternative, the affected man or woman's relations ought to make the alternative to end a existence. Edit: I only study your edit. Holy cow...i idea my relations were by lots in the previous quite a few years. i'm so sorry you and your relatives had to bypass by this. They were responsive to the choose, ideal? also, did he have an impact of criminal professional set up in case he became unable to characterize himself? My mom is my grandmother's, observed by my uncle if my mom is unavailable. (it truly is the in reality reason i understand some thing about this.) i'm positive the criminal professional will be asking you those issues. sturdy success. i wish you'd have the ability to hit upon some closure.

It sounds like he could have irritable bowel syndrom. Has he went to a doctor that specializes in this? or just his family doctor?? It sounds like his worries could be causing so much discomfort. Tell him to go to his drs. appt. today and see if they can refer him to a specialist. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon.

Has he had his prostrate checked? As that is one of the main problems for men, most men die with prostrate problems not realising there is a problem? Hope you get him better soon
