There are different interpretations and different types of sociopaths. Most are criminal or will be. Some sociopaths are born that way and others are victims of environment.
Basically, they have no conscience, no empathy, almost no fear, they rarely show anxiety. They can be both charming and cruel. They have an inability to love. They feel no remorse by cruel acts committed by themselves or others. They have an inability to conform to the rules of society.
You'll find a lot of serial killers have these traits. There is all kinds of information on the net about sociopaths and psychopaths. As far as I know, there is not currently a way to reverse these conditions.
Hope this helps a little.

A sociopath lacks moral reasoning to determine right from wrong. They tend to focus on their needs exclusive of others. They do not care whether other people want or need as long as they are satisfied first.
They don't have a a clear concept of "other".
People with antisocial personality disorder characteristically act out their conflicts and ignore normal rules of social behavior.
An anti-social personality (also called Psychopath and Sociopath) describes a person that can't feel empathy (ability to consider other's feelings and emotions) and doesn't feel guilt. This behavior of the anti-social person brings him to conflicts with the environment.
These individuals are impulsive, irresponsible, and callous. Typically, the antisocial personality has a history of legal difficulties, belligerent and irresponsible behavior, aggressive and even violent relationships.
They show no respect for other people and feel no guilt or remorse about the effects of their behavior on others. They are unable to feel empathy. There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others, occurring since early adolescence.
These people ware at high risk for substance abuse, especially alcoholism, since it helps them to relieve tension, irritability and boredom.
Usually these people are attractive, seducing, and charming (most of them are men). They're manipulative and don't know how to have close relationship, and always take advantage of others. If they are caught lying they show regret and promise not to do it again, but this behavior is just an act.
Anti-social personality has many forms: Some are aggressive and sadistic and have a history of cruelty beginning in childhood.
Some of the typical signs are:
failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors.
deceitfulness, lying
impulsivity, failure to plan ahead
irritability
aggressiveness (repeated involvement in physical fights or assaults)
reckless disregard for the safety of self and others
consistent irresponsibility (failure to sustain consistent work or honor financial

A sociopath is a person who has a congenital absence of a conscience. That is to say, they were born with out a conscience.
This defect makes it impossible for them to understand the concept of "wrong". They do anything which pleases them to do. The only time they feel or express regret is when they have to suffer consequences for their wrong doings.

No conscience. Only concerned for themselves. Their ends always justify their means. They can be very cruel and have a fantasy life that centers around, well THEM of course, but they gravitate toward serial killer and torture movies. We all see those too, but THEY FEEL THEM and keep them on their mind because they found such pleasure in it!! You have an avid horror film person who takes it TOO seriously or one who takes it all the way to BTK or another Unibomber. Some are brilliant and some are dumb as mud. The key is: They do not care about anyone but themselves and they have to fake it when they need to care. There's just a cold heart there and nothing to work with, just work ON. Stay away from them. They can't change, sorry. I know everyone says anyone can change. It's just too damn hard. Someday, if they don't act out their love of violence, they will be all alone and running from one scam to another. Try Hitler!!! There you go!! Good Luck!!@8=)

It's very easy to understand once you realize that "sociopath" is actually two words put into one: "social" and "pathology". Social obviously refers to matters involving numerous persons in some kind of understanding or agreed upon rules. Ergo: society. Pathology is the study of paths of events, in this case human behavior, and more specifically errant or abhorrant human behavior, or potentially criminal human behavior. So, combining the two words, you have a bit of grammatical acrobatics of sorts and you come up with "sociopath" which is used to describe an individual who "goes against the grain of" the society that they are living amongst, to the extent that it can be criminal, but at the very least is disturbing or upsetting to the other individuals in that society. A lot of words are combinations and abbreviations of other words to express a seemingly more complicated essence. I hope I have been of some help. God Bless you.
