Fusion will librate more energy than fission reaction. Often energy needed to start chain reaction of nuk fussion comes from fission. Classical example is our sun.

Fission is only possible with heavy cores like plutonium or uranium.

Fusion is only possible with light cores like hydrogen and helium.
