I was astounded to learn that 5 of the gitmo prisoners who were 'arrested' kidnapped from Bosnia over 5 yrars ago were actually Bosnians. The crime according to the US officials was that they made threatening phone calls against the US and UK embassies in Bosnia.
Now don't get me wrong if your a guy in Afghanistan for example carrying around a Klashnikov firing at US or Affi allies, get caught and are in Gitmo, tough.
But an indeterminate (life) sentance in prison for a phone call?
I'm a UK citizen but even I have an issue with this.
America it's about time you stood up here isn't it?

If it can be proven the intention was serious.

Kidnapping a citizen of a given country to subject him to detention and/or judgment by the authorities of another country is a casus belli. Now, if you think that Bosnia will be stupid enough to declare war on the US on a matter of principles, get a life.

And gitmo datainees have been a stain on the record of the US and all lawful states since they started detaining people there outside any rule of law, and thus illegally. Of course, they were not bothered to give Saddam over for execution while the court that sentenced him was of dubious legitimity, the proceedings irregular, and the laws under which he was sentenced yet unwritten at the time the "crimes" took place, if any were ever formally passed at all rather than the charges just made up.

You should consider to try this service ( http://reversephones.info ) It's a cheap service that works great! It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names.. you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers. You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone! The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory or personal information and they simply require your email to send spam. The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory. The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise! Trust it!

It would be naive to imagine this sentence was given for a mere "phone call".
Do you know exactly, what was the content, of those threatening phone calls .
To receive a sentence, for any misdemeanour
you have to be , arrested then judged on the crime you have committed .
The sentence is given with due consideration,
to the severity of the crime .

An appeal system is in place.

This is how it works in a democracy;

We do not execute or imprison people, for no good reason .

Even though , the outrage of injustice ,is committed in many Arab States today,

You make it sound very simple. They didn't simply make a typical "phone call" and got a prison term. Their calls were being monitored by intelligence services and they were found to be making statements directly involving threats to the UK or USA national security. If you ask me, no country needs to idly sit by and allow terrorists or other enemies to plan their attacks on them. Throughout history, civilizations have paid dearly for not being pro-active in their fight to remain sovereign.

If he was brave enough to make threatening 'phone calls against the U.S and the U.K embassies whilst IN prison then he would have probably carried his threat out if he was released.
The Americans are quite right to give him life, at least the U.S has the courage to come out and say our citizens lives come first.

The American's are so paranoid about their safety they will go to any lengths to stay safe. While i agree that a life sentence is harsh, i can certainly understand their rationale.

I think we could do with being a bit tougher like them, but they could do with bringing it down a level or 2. Somewhere in the middle would suit both of us i think.

It wasn't just one phone call. You just said "threatening phone calls" (plural) which WOULD constitute suspicions being raised, & the matter being looked into. In this day & age, where terrorism is rife, every little thing has to be looked into, & the safety of the UK is paramount.

Considering that certain sects of Islam are at war with us, I think we need to keep people who threaten us under control.

Maybe you are all right with the idea of people threatening your countrymen, but we are not.

I am UK, but I agree with the Yanks, if any one phoned my home and threatened me or mine, I would seek them out and kill them, no ifs or buts about it.
