Starting yesterday as the weather was getting colder the temp of our house went from 70 degrees to 68 degrees. Then last night by the time my husband came home the temp was all the way down to 67degrees. It is now 7:20 in the morning and it is 59 degrees!! It is freezing in here. YES WE HAD THE HEAT TURNED ON! We have electric heat. My husband tried to find out what was going on, but couldn't see anything. Can anyone PLEASE give us some advice. WE are freezing in here. It is 20 degrees outside! THANKS

Electric heat is tuff... you have to make sure that the thermostats are working first off.... you probably have one in every room? To check them, turn the heat up to 90. if you dont hear a "click", it doesnt mean they arent working. You can check them by feeling for heat from the radiators. I'm not positive about this but I think that with electric heat, if you have one radiator thats bad, all the ones that follow it wont work. All this said you need to get an HVAC person in there before it gets colder!!!! Good luck!

Could be your thermostat needs some attention. If it is a programmable one, change the battery(s). If is not programmable pick up a cheepie one for $10 and try it.

But first make a trip to the circuit breaker box and check to see if one or more has tripped. It might show "OFF" or it might not be quite all the way to the "ON" position. In either case, the switch(es) must be moved to the full "OFF" position and then to the full "ON" position.

If you have bad insulation that could be a problem, also check for drafts around your doors and windows, they may have cracks in them or tiny openings that can let cool air in and take away your heat from inside your house.

i take it this is your first winter in the house? or, the first winter when it's got to 20 degrees outside?

if that's the case, you may have either bad insulation, or insufficient heating. see here:

your electric company can tell you how much heat you need.

Have your furnace checked by a reputable HVAC person. And make sure all your windows are locked tight and doorwells have no air leaks.
