Good question.

Disability claims often take about 8 months to be approved. In some cases, it takes longer because of the high volume of Social Security cases being handled by the local office.

You don't say how long you've been waiting, but if it has been for less than 8 months, you still have a little bit of wait ahead of you.

To know the status of your disability claim, you can visit your nearest Social Security Office, or call 1-800-772-1213.

Yes, I've just been through this. It took me 2 years, with the help of an attorney, which I believe is necessary. There are so many things for you to know and do that it can be overwhelming. You can do it yourself, but turn it over to an attorney and take the pressure off. Their fee is automatically controlled by state law so they can't take all your award. When all was done that could be done and still no response from SSA, I called my senator in Washington asking for help. The next mail day I had my check!

No. My husband is waiting on a hearing with the administrative law judge. It has been 13 months. Are you aware of the process?
