Well I went there in 1963, to Varna, on the Black Sea, then hopped on a coach to Sofia, which fell off the mountain road.
The ride on a camel was fun, the massive waves were great, and I was only eight years old, living on Bulgarian Goat & Chips.
I suppose it has all changed.
The Q is - has anyone been there recently ?
And what is it like now ?
I fancy returning.
Bob.

Absolutely wonderful. Was just there around Christmas. Bulgarians are super friendly and the prices there are still relatively inexpensive. Go now before Sofia turns into the next Prague (i.e. with drunken raucous expats and stag parties).

I havent been there personally but as atravel agent i have booked alot of customers to bulgaria in the last few years. Most have gave positive feedback there were a few who expected it to be like marbella!! however alot of customers rebooked saying it was lovely, affordable and had great beaches and scenery. It has been named the new Turkey for its similarities in temprature and the culture. I am sure you will enjoy
