Is there something you brought for baby and never used, didn't get on with, or just found something better to do the job.
I brought a baby carrier that never came out of the box.

Mir77 - Tell your friend I agree. This Christmas was the first one(aged 5 and 2) that they really had noisy toys. If granparents want to give them noisy toys, the toys have to live at Nanny's house.

Moses basket. It was so pretty and cost 80 pounds but she wouldn't sleep in it and ended up spending her nights snuggled up in a carseat. Then it was time to move on the cot so the moses basket was unused.

Change table with built in bath. At the moment the bath makes a great storage compartment for wipes, cotton balls, etc. To this day we have never used the bath (change table is 3 years old). Baby # 2 was a roller from early on so we always ended up changing and dressing him on the floor (can't roll off the floor!!!). Now with # 3 we are in such a habbit of using the floor, we don't even think to use the change table. So it sits in the corner taking up space. I use it to put the laundry on before I get around to putting it away, so it sort of has a purpose.

Everyone is bagging the change table but i used mine - albeit not every time as sometimes the bed / floor is easier and closer. But the change table was good for me especially when baby is newborn. I was sore after giving birth, your back hurts etc - I found that the change table limited the bending.
I got the change table with the bath in it but also with compartments on the side to store necessary items eg nappy rash cream, powder, nail scissors, hairbrush etc.
I would suggest though that it may not be worthwhile buying one new - i bought mine on ebay and it is practically new for less than half the price.
I wouldnt buy the baby sling (thing that you put around your back and waist to carry baby in front of you) again- not new anyway. Number of times have used it i could count on one hand. Good for going to the markets, airport and when visiting the Ikea store!
jolly Jumper also crap.
Baby swing that hangs on hooks underneath patio or similiar is great though. Baby gets to be outside, can see you while you do gardening, have a cuppa etc and loves to swing with wind in their hair. there are times when my bubba doesnt want to be in it - probably feels trapped as she has just learnt to crawl...
Sorry my answer is so long

quite a lot of the stuff i bought i didnt use. i wanted everything for my little boy so i bought it. got a huge fancy pushchair that cost a fortune- was only used when my husband was around as it was too heavy for my to lift in and out of our jeep. a baby bath used once. then left in the bathroom as easier to just put him in the bath. a nappy bin that only held bout 10 nappies- got fed up of emptying it. and loads more but y answer is long enough as it is lol. the best thing i bought was a bubo seat. this was fantastic- still use it now 2 yrs on. my son loves to sit in it and watch tv.

I never used our changing table. It was set up in the baby's room & used to hold stuff like a bookshelf! It always seemed like such a hassle to go in there to change them so I ended up keeping the diapers & wipes right in the family room and just spread a blanket on the floor.

I feel like everything I got when my son was a baby ended up being a waste. In the need all I needed were diapers, breasts, a carseat, a sling, and some onesies. Everything else is a waste of money.

As im pregnant for the first time, im finding your answers very useful. When my sister had a baby she bought a changing table to put in the nursery, it hardly ever got used as most of the time the baby was downstairs so the bathroom was closer place to change him.

My friend, mother of two, says ( she is sitting next to me) that ALL toys with sounds were a complete waste of money :-) She says that, if someone ever rocks up with another music making, ringing or sound making toy, she is going to chuck it out of the windowand sue the giver. She rather has quietr toys that silkence her kids by making them think. In peace! :-)
