My doctor said to pick up strong bug spray that contained 30% DEET to prevent myself from contracting Dengue Fever. It makes sense to me to buy this stuff and use it if I was on vacation for 2 weeks, but to wear this for two years? Do the Singaporeans actually spray a cloud of bug spray every day on themselves before leaving their home? Serious responses only please.

No, we do not wear bug spray everyday. We do, however, take precautions by bringing along bug spray if we happen to be going somewhere with a lot of vegetation, like the Singapore Zoo or the Night Safari.

Like any place with mosquitos, prevention is the best option. By avoiding being outside during dusk/dawn you limit your potential exposure. As its located very near the equator, the twilight periods in Singapore are very short. The advice on the spray is very valid as well, but its not something you would need all of the time.

Seek local advice when you get there, medical services are very good. Many general travel advisories often over-state the risks.

and you gotta wear a mask too, bird flu is on the rise in SE asia... LOLz

Now, seriously, unless you are living (camping) at the botanical garden or mandai forrest, you need not worry too much.
