am doing some research for a paper so serious answers only please. I would like to know your feelings on Gays in the Military. I would also like to know how you feel about the current policy in place. Now Imagine for a min that you are on the frontlines and all you have is your buddies to your left or right and you are praying that they remeber that last 1st aid class or they got 40 out of 40 on their weapons qualification. At this very moment are you thinking " Are they gay"? Does it really matter to you their sexuality and why. What are your why's and why nots. Also if you can point me in direction of any "credible" resources that discuss this topic let me know. I am researching for a paper and I am not gay but my position is that I feel the current policy protects the homosexuals privacy and sheilds them from any ridicule after all sexual orientation does not affect job performance and we "all" know that "AIDS" is NOT a disease that affects homosexuals only.

it protects the straight soldiers more. don't ask don't tell. if they tell they get booted out right away don't they?

Men in battle don't have time to get over their preconceived ideas about gays and whether they will scream and cry like a little girl when the bullets start flying or not. They might not deal with that very well maybe you know. They might refuse to fight next to one or depend on one. I think it protects the straight soldiers more. Obviously most straight soldiers don't know what it's like to be gay. And it's not the gays fault either. He has just as much of a right to fight as the rest of us, it's just that they need to be sheilded from the ignorance of heterosexual soldiers.

There are and always have been gays in the military. The issue is whether or not it is safe for them to be openly gay. I personally think that a person's sexual orientation is their own right, and that gays are as entitled to every job opportunity as equally as anyone else.

There are all sorts of trumped-up excuses to exclude gays, but that is just institutionalized homophobia.

My main fear for someone in the military who is gay is that some homophobic fellow soldier is going to use "friendly fire" or lack of full support to hurt them. But if a gay person wants to be out of the closet openly, that should not affect whether or not they can be in the military.

Perhaps the problem lies not in others' gayness, but in prejudice and judgment against gays, which is not our right to do.
