am doing some research for a paper so serious answers only please. I would like to know your feelings on Gays in the Military. I would also like to know how you feel about the current policy in place. Now Imagine for a min that you are on the frontlines and all you have is your buddies to your left or right and you are praying that they remeber that last 1st aid class or they got 40 out of 40 on their weapons qualification. At this very moment are you thinking " Are they gay"? Does it really matter to you their sexuality and why. What are your why's and why nots. Also if you can point me in direction of any "credible" resources that discuss this topic let me know. I am researching for a paper and I am not gay but my position is that I feel the current policy protects the homosexuals privacy and sheilds them from any ridicule after all sexual orientation does not affect job performance and we "all" know that "AIDS" is NOT a disease that affects homosexuals only.

"Don't ask, don't tell" is ludicrous! I am a Viet Nam-era vet, and during that time, the only official consideration given to homosexuality was that it might affect one's ability to get a security clearance. The argument then was that an enemy could use knowledge of one's "gayness" to blackmail someone to give up classified information. At a time when there was great fear of being "outed" there may have been some validity to this, though I doubt there were many instances of it causing any real problems. Homosexual activity was banned, but that was more a matter of "maintaining order" or not "disturbing the peace" than it was a matter of discrimination. In today's world it is unconscionable that sexual orientation continues to be an issue, (within the military or not).
I disagree with your position that the current policy protects anyone's privacy or shields them from ridicule. People are what they are, and should not feel it necessary to either flaunt it or hide it. Likewise, others are free to accept or reject them based on their own criteria. Nothing will change basic human behavior, - especially not military "reg's".
(And good luck on your research paper)

People need to quit acting like gays should get all the rights that normal Americans have. I'm not going to go into what their motivation for joining the military really is (let's just say, it's not defending our country). We also "all" know that the vast majority of AIDS cases is with homosexuals. Stop being so politically correct, and face the facts.

The only people whose opinions matter in this is those of people who can be considered as likely to enlist in the military and people in the military who we want to re-enlist.

If these people indicate that being forced to shower with a homosexual would make them less likely to join the military or to re-enlist - then we need to continue the current policy. Otherwise we have just damaged national security in the name of political correctness.

Besides - how would you feel if there was a draft and you found your that you were going to get drafted and then forced to shower with homosexuals?

No gay sex in the military. It is a sin to be a practicing homosexual if they remain celibate that is OK otherwise it promotes a lack of unity and quite frankly when I served everyone and I mean everyone found gay sex to be repulsive and when someone was caught they were discharged.

I think they should be allowed. Just 2 weeks ago, one of the top commanders of the military was trying to get rid of the gay ban. I am not sure how it is going now, but it looks like the ban may be lifted in the near future
