Trade usually brings countries closer together. The US has been moving closer to China since the 70's.
There's little reason to think increased trade would drive them apart. Then again, China is extremely unpredictable.

Well yes. If you notice the US is attempting to solve so called problems by expanding itself into other countries to protect its oil interest. This is also a tactical maneuver for military power. Problem right now is the US armed forces are thinned out and weak. NATO is not really behind us at this time either. Look at common problems of when World Powers began to fail,
1. Military weak, thinned out, fighting on several fronts,
2. Its Moral standards were debased
All world powers that had these two things occurring, all have failed, unfortunately, the US and England, have ruled the earth for over 200 and some years now, it may be time for a new World Power to emerge.

Japan invaded China and it took some time before China could stand somewhere against them.
I am afraid I don't know enough about it, but that I know.
