Many PC enthusiasts still hold on to the old (& no longer accurate) opinions about Intel and AMD. Until recently I was one of them.

The overclock thing, the heat thing, the compatibility thing ..... all myths...trust me. There is no basis for this whatsoever.

Yes, right now Intel makes the fastest desktop processor available. Unless you are buying that particular CPU ... what do you care ?

Chevrolet makes the fastest American car on the market (the Corvette) ... is that reason enough for you to buy strictly Chevrolet .... of course not . That would be absurd.

They are both excellent & reliable. Keep away from opinions that appear biased.

Look for the power you need in a PC & can afford.
Look for upgrade options available on an AMD vs Intel mainboards.
Look for the best "bang for buck" product.

Use this link to compare any 2 Intel & AMD processors performance benchmarks :

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html

Examine the benchmarks running applications that you may use.
In most cases you will find that the difference in comparable AMD & Intel processors is between 3 % to 9 %... not much really.

Whereas one may be faster in scientific apps the other will surpass that same CPU in mulimedia apps (for example).

I use both brands in a multi PC high end environment & really could not tell you the difference (so far as daily operation) between one or the other.

It remains a personal choice.

** INTERESTING FACT **: The Intel Corp. actually was the one who CREATED the AMD Corp....hahaha..they did this to create competition in the chip market for themselves so IBM, who at the time was licensing chips from intel, wouldnt freak out that a possiblity existed that Intel would go bankrupt...And now zoom to today an AMD is their direct competor..a thorn in Intel's side..

From my experience alot of the "geek" world love AMD because you can overclock it with ease while Intel makes it alot harder. I have 2 computers in my home: 1 an INTEL and the other an AMD..and i prefer my Intel because it seems a bit more compatible with software..i mean 99.9% work on AMD but sometimes you come across that rare app that goes all funny on AMD...i hate that...AMD has a reputation for gamers. One thing that was annoying with AMDs over Intel (they may have made things better now) is that when your AMD chip overheats because of a bad fan it can actualyl fry the chip...while Intel's have this special feature to "slow down" the processor so it doesnt fry itself...THANK YOU...I think Intel is more about technology and elegance while AMD is about speed and cutting costs...I'd go with Intel if i had a choice.

a better question is which is better right now. they've been jumping ahead of each other for years but there is no steady winner of best proccessor. right now intel has the most powerful proc. the core 2 extreme qx6700 quad-core but amd is rumored to be coming out with one that will blow it away in a few months. if you're trying to find out which one to buy it's really a matter of opinion, some say that amd is better for gaming and intel is better for multimedia projects such as video conversion but i've never seen solid proof that either is truly better than the other.

AMD for graphic works and rendering options.
Intel is better in performance and it works with less heat and saves energy.
