Of the people I know, there are two basic groups: those that drink and party, and those that don't. I've always been a "good" kid, my father is a pastor, and I've never had a sip of alcohol. I'm 18 and started college this year.
Those that don't party tend to think that those that do are being stupid and are basically throwing away their lives. Those that do tend to think those that don't are just uptight and don't know how to have a good time.
Who is right?

you r a good observer..Who is right? well, no1 can tell cuz you r talking about groups of people not individuals...We have to know more details about a specific person, his/her actions, thoughts, circumstances, how and why he/she chose and what......It is more complicated and it has more dimensions than you think...The easy thing to say is that both are wrong cuz as ancient Greek say; do everything but with measure...or else ''do everything but not overdo it...''...

As a former 'party girl' I would have to go with a good balance in between. Too much time and money is thrown away flat out partying but it doesn't hurt to have a little fun every now and again and it doesn't always have to revolve around alcohol and drugs. My advise to you as you have just started college is not to get involved in that lifestyle it will upset your study and scores, not to mention how upset and disappointed your parents will be. Use your instinct to tell you what is right and wrong.

I think the whole concept is flawed...

Partying is fun - and is a great past-time. Also allows to build special relationships and groups of friends that often last for life. It is part of the college experience, and I think it should be experienced.

Drinking is a pleasure, and is something that is mostly socially acceptable everywhere...

Where the flaw is hidden is in the concept of getting drunk as a MUST to be able to have fun. Alcohol is a great desinhibitor (that means that it removes the limits that our morals normally imposes us), and when drunk people act up. I think that all people who need to get drunk to party are people with a poor imagination and definitely with a frigid concept of life, and they need the alcohol to overcome their limitation.

A normal and healthy person can have one or two drinks, maybe even occasionally one too many... and still remain in control of him/herself, have fun and not need to be ashamed the day after.

Also, that limits health risks and legal consequences.

Caveat emptor: depending on your residence, you need to be 21 to have a drink... and never drive after drinking. There is no excuse for acting irresponsible.

One minute after you have died, if you could look back at your life, what would you have the most regret over, being one of the drink and party people, or being one of the not people?

I believe one ought to maximize one's life experiences. Never drinking might be one less experience, over drinking might lead to missing out on many more experiences... and dangerous drinking might lead to a premature death and that really cuts down on the sum of life experiences. Do you follow me?

You'll have to use your own judgement about what you need to do to keep maximizing your life experiences.

Sample it all. Challenge yourself to leave your comfort level, but always remember immediate gratification more often then not comes at a cost.

Nothing is absolutely right and nothing is absolutely wrong. It is based on statistics of a few million years of human existence that we think something is either right or wrong. In reality, there is no right and there is no wrong.

.in life it's important to do what you like. you shouldn't care what are other people saying. what you did in the last paragraph is judging them. stop thinking about that and be yourself don't copy others.

Do you really care what others think of you? If so, you are a very shallow person. To each his own.
