Most people will choose their home city - as you always have a soft spot for the place you know best, and I love London.
However, London aside, I love Sydney.
I had the good fortune of living there for 2 years and it is a wonderful place.
I lived in a suburb Mosman on the North Shore of the Harbour.
Each morning I would walk in the warm sunshine through Bourganvillia lined streets and catch the ferry to work. What better way to start your day - coffee and a croissant on a ferry, floating across Sydney harbour with views of the magnificent bridge and Opera House.
The city was vibrant and clean and full of hope. The people were polite and optimistic. For me, Sydney had all the best features of London, New York and LAe with little of the violence and crime. A truely wonderful place.

London - the greatest city in the world. In turns, beautiful, ugly, peaceful, aggressive, vibrant, comforting, frightening. It does have everything: great theatre, super clubs and bars, some of the greatest orchestras of the world (and it supports more orchestras than any other city), wonderful restaurants, beautiful parks, fascinating and hugely varied architecture, history, commerce, government, some of the very best galleries and museums (all free), a huge variety of people of all backgrounds and ambitions. It is also perhaps one of the most 'natural' of the great cities of the world, in the sense that it has developed with minimal State interference or planning - it is a city of the people. There are no grid-like road plans in London. Few specially designed vistas. So one stumbles across breathtaking views by accident rather than by design. Stubborn, grumpy little buildings sit alongside vast, modernist, gleaming new structures. Winding little alleyways and sidestreets pop up out of nowhere.
Phew! That was a little breathless. Anyway, I like London - I live there, by the way, but I wasn't born there. I also have a particular soft spot for Barcelona and New York. I've never been to Sydney, but hear it is great.
