Sean Connery was the first James Bond. He appeared in 6 official James Bond films over a period of 9 years: Dr. No in 1962, From Russia with Love in 1963, Goldfinger in 1964, Thunderball in 1965, You Only Live Twice in 1967, and Diamonds Are Forever in 1971. He also appeared in Never Say Never Again in 1983, a remake of Thunderball, but it is not considered an official James Bond film.

Sean Connery, and the film was Dr No. Another thing Ive heard a few times is that Bob "give us a P please" Holness (the guy from block buster, was actually the first bond, as he was the voice of James Bond when it was run on the radio before the films were made. Don't know how true that is though.

In the first of the official francise it was Sean Connery in Doctor No. (1962)

In the first unoffical Bond film, it was David Niven (playing SIR James Bond) in Casino Royale (1967). Also credited as playing 007 (not James Bond) in this film are Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress and Dahlia Lavi.

In the very first instance it was Bob Holness (of Blockbusters fame) in a South African radio adaptation - sorry, I don't know the novel.

Sean Connery - Dr No.

Although papers recently released discussing the project between Ian Fleming and a script writer three years before the release of Dr No discuss using Alfred Hitchcock as director and Richard Burton as James Bond.

It didn't happen as Hitchcock wanted to make Psycho.
