Hi, the sitcom may be "Them". It aired on ATV in 1972 and starred Arthur Haynes and the Irish actor Dermot Kelly as two tramps. It was written by Johnny Speight of "Alf Garnett" fame. Hope this is what you were looking for.

Arthur Haynes (May 19, 1914 in London, England–November 19, 1966) was an English comedian and star of The Arthur Haynes Show, produced by ATV for 10 years until his death from a heart attack. Haynes' most popular character was a working class tramp - created by scriptwriter Johnny Speight who went on to write the iconic BBC TV working class sitcom series Till Death Us Do Part in the same year Haynes died.
Arthur Haynes became an entertainer while serving with the Royal Engineers in World War II. He appeared with Charlie Chester in the concert party "Stars in Battledress", and continued to work with Chester after the war, on both radio and BBC television. He became a household name as a result of an ITV show, Strike a New Note (1956). The following year, he was given his own show.
His TV shows made Haynes the most popular comedian in Britain. He was voted ITV Personality of the Year in 1961, and appeared on the Royal Variety Performance in the same year. The shows also made a minor star of Nicholas Parsons, who tended to play Haynes' straight/pompous neighbour/authority figure in the comedy sketches.
In 1965, Haynes appeared in the Rock Hudson/Gina Lollobrigida movie Strange Bedfellows and, in 1966, the British movie Doctor in Clover, but his potential film career was cut short by his sudden death. He died at the height of his career with his full potential unfulfilled.

I think his surname was spelt Haynes.

Might be worth an internet search with the right spelling.

I do remember the sitcom, it may well just have been the Arthur Haynes Show.

I vaguely remember this - I think it was the Arthur Haynes show.

I think the characters have been used as a base for the grumpy old men from the Fast show.

Hi

Are you sure it was Arthur Haines as he died in 1966. Could the little Irish guy be Sam Kelly?

First thought about Bootsy and Snudge, but researched it and think it is the Arthur Haynes Show.
