I believe it's a state of mind. if you feel happy with being alone then you are not alone, only in the phycial term.
You could be in a house full of people and still be alone.
So, might one say, that aloneness is a state of being, and that it depends on a person’s state of mind whether they are lonely or content.

I suppose that means I'm not alone, but that is only some of the time......there are times when I still feel alone even when I am here.....(I assume this place is what you're referring to)
