If the true objective of terrorism is to spread terror and alarm...I would say the American Media is the biggest terrorist group of them all. Mhmmm.

The mass media are absolutely an interest group. A handful of mega-corps now own almost all US media outlets and they're out for more.

A couple years ago, when the Industry was pressuring the FCC to drop what few remaining rules there were left on the books regarding ownership, you didn't hear a peep about it in the press.

Much of what passes for "news" on your local television stations are actually slick public relations pieces provided by special interest groups. And the same is true of the newspapers.

There may have once been a time when the mass media served the people, but once it became big business all ethics went out the window.

The media generally reports to make money...they provide a product: news...package it in a way that draws people to consume it, and garner profit from it...

hardly anything "special" about that interest...

but then if you think about it, everyone and everything can belong to a "special interest" carpenters may sign a petition to allow trade in exotic woods. Fast food restaurants may spend money fighting health legislation, or passing laws against frivolous lawsuits. Doctors, teachers, immigrants, farmers, et cetera.

It's really just a term used for people trying to have an effect on government but don't go it alone.
