i don't think a person would succumb to falsehood as truth but h/she may just accept the false for the sake of coexisting with society, retaining a job, etc. the tolerance level varies from person to person. some people are very hard to change whereas some change very easily. Also it depends on how important certain things in life are to the person. Generally, if someone doesn't have money to pay rent or to buy food, they become more vulnerable.

I believe that everyone, at some level of their mind, has succumbed to falsehood as truth. The human mind is much more impressionable than you might think, and reality is much less clear than we would like to believe. There are many grey areas and unanswerable questions. For these, the mind is forced to lean toward an assumptive answer.

What do you really truly know for sure? Very little. The rest is assumption.

I see it a little differently. Some people, in order to live with guilt over things they have done, delude themselves into thinking it is someone else's fault instead of a choice they freely made. They will keep lying to themselves until the truth becomes obscure and the lie becomes truth. SW
