Deuteronomy 8:2 "And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not." I would say, to see if we are faithfull.

read about jobe in the bible, his faith was tested many times
but never waivered. and when it came time for god to pass judgement on him, im sure he was rewarded.
thats where the phrase "patience of jobe came from".
god will enlighten then he will test us,
i have been a christian for over 25 years, never losing faith in god,
or so i thought, , my sister,my partner, and my daughter died within a week a each other, after that my faith has been stronger.
im willing for god to test my faith, tests are good no matter how you look at it.
when my sister passed, most would have said why did you let my sister die, i said thank you god for relieving her pain,
when my partner died, most said how could god let this happen,
i said because god knew she was suffering and relieved her of her pain.
my daughter, how could god take my child from me, i said thank you god for taken my child to heaven, and relieving her of her pain as well.
i was with tonya for 8.5 years, tonya was sick for most of the time, so now i know she is without pain and is happy.
