A lot depends on your circumstances. If there are no children or property involved, you can do the whole thing yourself for just £150, ask your nearest County Court for details. If there are children and property involved, then you will need the help of a solicitor. Whichever way you do it, remember that you must be seperated for at least 2 years before you can begin proceedings, no matter who left whom or why. You should also know that adultery itself is no longer a reason for a court granting a divorce, but it may be grounds for claiming "unreasonable behaviour" or that you cannot reasonably be expected to continue to live with your husband.

I've been there.

The quickest way is to leave him everything and start from scratch. That's what I did and it took about a year and a half.

Just think about what you are giving up though. I know what you are going through - and you just want it over with. But if you have invested alot into the relationship, you might resent the fact that in a couple of years he will be sitting high and mighty with everything you earned together in his possession.

If there isn't anything owned between you that you value much, just let it go. You're better off on your own.

But. that is the only way to make it 'fast and not bitter' as you say.

If there aren't any children, and you agree on how to divide assets, then it can be rather quick and not necessarily expensive. You can go to your county court house and learn what forms need to be filed. A marriage dissolution in my state is only $145.00.

If you do have children and assets, there is usually a longer waiting period (in my state 90 days vs. 60 with no minors under 18) and you'll want a lawyer to help sort out the property.

If in UK go to solicitor and tell them that. it can be done within a few months but your husband will have to admit to the adultery. Another person's name does not have to be brought in to it.

Move out, file for a divorce don't fight him for money or the house and it should be quick.

If you want your fair share of things than its likely to be a long one.
