I find it quite puzzeling that I can buy wine in supermarkets (Spar, Pick n' Pay), but I can't buy beers. Does anyone know why this is? Is it because the bottlestore have a monopoly on selling beers?

We are only allowed to sell alcohol beverages in liqour stores here in SA! Wine is not considered a liqour, but more of a drink-therefore you will be able to buy wine, but not beer! :-)

Coz they have to adhere to these above-stated medievel...no, stone-aged laws (even though wine has a higher alcohol content than beer). The only result of this brain-dead primitive law is that illegal shebeens shot up everywhere.
After hours or on weekends are the only times working people can have a drink, and have time to go buy it, but then...voila! that's the exact times alcoholic beverages are unavailable (with the exception of wine). It's like a restaurant closing at lunchtime.

Wine isn't really classed as alcohol in South Africa, therefore supermarkets have a licence to sell it, but not on Sundays (it was like that the last time I was in my country, 5years ago), Bottlestores/Liquorstores have the licence to sell alcohol.

this is the way the regulation is desperate up and the voters of Utah voted it that way. In NC you may purely get liquor in state operated shops. Which sucks reason they don't have sales. yet you will get wine and beer in very almost any nutrition, convenience save. as quickly as I lived in Memphis i ought to stagger my thank you to a minimum of one in all approximately 15 liquor shops interior of a mile of my dwelling house and get wine or liquor. Beer became bought in nutrition save. yet wine on the liquor save became particularly stupid. I enjoyed the liquor regulations in Memphis so lots greater helpful.
