Vista needs at least 1 GB Ram and a 128 MB graphic card. Your CPU should be 64-bit (if you want to have better details and options). I think vista needs 20-30 GB free space on your hard drive. I don't recommend you to run vista on that PC. Maybe if you upgrade your Ram to 1.5 or 2 GB. It would be better if you had a 256 MB graphic card. But if you are going to install Vista-Ultimate remember that many of programs won't work.

Hi, first off, how did you put vista onto a cd?? vista looks much better than xp but as they say "dont judge a book by its cover" vista requires at least 2 gigs , and the high end cpu .. just for the OS.. if I were you i would install xp instead cuz it's much more easy to run .. and it has more compatibility if you wanna run the old school softwares as well

Not as it stands it is not. I would upgrade your memory to 2GB, install a larger hard drive, and you do not say what type of video card is currently installed, if any. Vista needs discrete graphics if you want all the bells and whistles, plus you will need a Direct X 10 capable video card to play the newest games, integrated graphics will not work well at all. How old are your printers/scanners? Anything 3 years older or older, will not work with Vista as there are not drivers available. You may want to look at he following link and pick up the current issue of MaximumPC as they list 10 reasons NOT to buy Vista. You

First of all use this tool from Microsoft to determine the level of Vista performance on your PC :

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

Next .... all versions of Vista use the same core.
(relative to x86 & x64)

What runs on Basic x86 will run on Ultimate x86.
What runs on Basic x64 will run on Ultimate x64.

The differences are in added features & security options ... they ARE NOT different operating systems.
I've been testing all x86 & all x64 versions for two months now...trust me on this.

You will need more more RAM .. at the very least 1GB total. Preferably more.

Your programs should work fine ... even on the 64bit version I am able to use all my 32bit programs.
16bit programs will not run on the x64 versions of Vista.

It will require about 12GB for installation.

A mid to high end video card is highly recommended.
Also ... make sure all drivers are available (check hardware mfg websites) before you do the upgrade.
Legacy devices are no problem but obscure third party device drivers are not yet available.

You only need a 64bit CPU if you plan to use the x64 versions of Vista...if not it makes no difference whatsoever.

Go here for the different features in each Vista version :

i ouldnt recommmend you installing Windows Vista because, you need atleast 1 GB of ram to run Vista update yu Harddisk because Vista takes around 10 - 13 GB for installing it self so you need more room for other stuff.the rest are fine.
