Im supposed to do a presentation on Friday explaing why we need an Email Acceptable use policy and try to convince people that its for their benefit. Please help me. im stuck.

it acts as a contract with the users of the email system - governing the system and preventing unacceptable, damaging or illegal behavour.

It gives the owner of the email server the option to suspend or take action against someone who breaches the AUP.

An acceptable use policy is an organisation's way of laying a mark on the ground about what their employees may do with company property... to defend the company against charges it permits its employees to sexually or racially harras others, to send mail of questionable taste or to spam users from company accounts. It can be used to warn or dismiss an employee if they broach it, but it's of no specific use to the employees. I can't see that you're going to have an easy time selling a rod to the users as a carrot, so I can understand why you are stuck.

Unless your users need to be told what is acceptable behaviour. Or unless your female employees need protecting from male employees.
