My partner has just started working nights, that is not the problem.
What is,when i worked nights in the past she used to hoover, bang about and generally make loads of noise when i tried to sleep.
Do i do the same and get some long awaited revenge or be nice and keep me and my 3 year old nice a quiet?

Take the revenge!! Be loud! Be a man! When she gets up tell her this is what she used to do and you hope she understands how inconsiderate she has been and still is!. Then tell her to get her lazy But in the kitchen and get your lunch ready! If you have the balls.......

I had something like your situation when i worked nights.

It was very complicated and nothing I said was paid attention to. I still have feelings of resentment towards her for it.

Retaliation of the type you mention might be a useful tool in your armoury, but not 'the Best Way' to deal with it.
At least she had the honesty to admit her reason to you ~ though it was a bloody childish way to behave ~ as if you are responsible for her being bored and the one who she puts in charge resolving her boredom - and to keep her from becoming bored.

Did you sign up for that? for that role?

You need to talk 'with' each other as you are just going to let her get away with it and create a climate for the future based on the past (ie 'your present') experiences.

Hmm. I work nights and my family seem noisy but they say they are trying to be quiet. I found that playing relaxing music in the bedroom cut out their noise and I know sleep soundly even when they are all at home. I suggest to your wife to do the same. She probably thought she was being quiet but sounds carry up walls etc so to try and get your own back would seem petty. She will probably complain about the noise even when you are being quiet so get her some relaxing music and you will all live happily everafter!

Funny you should say that! When I did nights my other half made more noise than a football crowd. And no matter how much I complained things never got any better.

So should you get your own back? Would it change anything? Or is the high moral ground a more satisfying place to be?

Depends on how long ago you worked nights. If you finished only a matter of weeks ago then i would be a bit noisy to let her see what it was like, but only once, no more !!

BUT if you finished doing nights months or even years ago then why bother, she'll just think your a childish, petty and downright pathetic - up to you !

Revenge is so sweet - get to it straight away my friend let her know that you've not forgotten her antics when the boot was on the other foot. Fair play I say

Good luck and enjoy it

my advice would be and was how my father always said, you should treat people the same way that you would like to be treated, so think back to how your partner was when you worked nights, then think how you would have liked her to be and then treat her the way you would have liked it, revenge is never sweet if it goes against your nature, remember you still have to live with your actions

Try it a few times so she knows what you went thru, make her apologise for doing it and that it was mean, then stop and be nice as she will be very gratefull to u and be extra nice for the time u was on nites. xx

I would maybe do it a couple of times just to get your point accross, after all she did admit she was doing it on purpose. but after you get your revenge i would let it be. she may just think of another way to seek revenge on you.
