They are feeling helpless and that life will never get better. If you want to help let them know that there are people out there that care about them and would miss them. Also let them know that there are always different ways to look at their lives and ways to turn them around.

*Extremely depressed*
Feeling unloved/uncared for
Feeling there is nothing left to live for
Thinking loved-ones would be better of without him/her
Thinking he or she is useless/hopeless/unworthy
---Also, this can happen after a woman has a baby---

If you think that a person even has the slightest thought of commiting such an act, try to get him or her to an emergency room--call an ambulance if they give you a problem. The person is ill, and does not truly want to die--they will thank you later when medicated and has some therapy. (I once just had a feeling that someone wanted to die--I thought it was just something dumb running through my mind--that person did shoot themself, about a week later).

The person thinking of this needs a lot of attention, love, friendship, praise--all good things. This person should not be alone for one moment. The best thing to do would be to bring this person into the emergency room or a doctor--before it's too late.

Depression occurs due to a chemical imbalance--and medications can clear this up. The person also will need some therapy/counseling--to get to the root of his or her illness, and to make sure the medication is working--also adjust or change med if necessary.

I hope this has helped a little, and I really hope that you get this person to a safe place asap.

that is a very complex question to answer. There as so many circumstances which might lead somebody to make that choice but ultimately they feel they have no other way out of the situation they are in. This could be real or imagined. My mother for example, has created a whole world of problems which don't actually exist and no amount of logic can get her out of it. One incident that actually took place when I was staying with her last week was that she was concerned that there would be a court case connected with a car accident she was involved in. I was in the car at the time, the accident wasn't her fault, her car was stationary and a concrete mixer drove across the front of her, she was in no way to blame. She knew it, the other driver and his co worker knew it, the insurance company knew it.....so how could there be a case against her........oh and incidentally it happened 28 years ago! So you see that is the kind of thought processes you have to deal with.

All you can do is be alert to the outward signs like giving away valuable posession and be alert, in extreme cases do suicide watch. My mum has suffered this condition for over 20 years, often it's controled with drugs but things change over time and the drugs must change too. It's only with constant monitoring, especially from my dad, that my mum is still with us.

The person does not have the patience to think on the right lines. His confidence and courage to face life and problems (if there be one) are totally lost and feels absolutely broken in mind. Most persons committing suicide do not do it of their own. That is why it is told they commit. Due to lack of knowledge and ignorance of possibility of positive results they are driven to this effect. Poor!

i believe they would b in a deep state of depression, and think that they have no way of lifting thier mood or the depression they r suffering!something severe would have to trigger this feeling, and they think they would b better off dead,so they dnt hafta suffer from thier emotional pain!i think u should keep a constant eye on them an try an brighten them up and make them smile!councilling may also help, just b there for them, and make them know thier much loved and wanted.give them a reason to want to carry on living, because suicide is a big waste of a precious life!

They are most likely experiencing a major depressive episode. The best thing to do for this person, if it's an emergency, get them to the hospital. Otherwise, get them to their doc, ask for a referral to a psychitrist and therapist. It will take medication and therapy to help this person recover to a place of normalacy.
