I have just bought the phone and when I listen to music on my MP3 player within the phone, i try to change the equaliser from say rock to jazz and nothing happens. There is no change in the sound. Has anybody else experienced this. the files are an mpeg -4 which is what the music player takes. Can anyone help?

Sorry dude.
You can do two thing.
1.either ignore it
or2. Try another phone from another company.

Sorry Simon, the equaliser on this phone is a gimmick, it just doesn't make enough of a perceptible difference. This is a known issue with equalisers on most MP3 phones. If this is important to you, the Sony Ericsson handsets are marginally better and if your phone is on contract you can return it within 14 days.
