My friend went to the trip to England.
I requested the purchase of the chess set to the friend.
My friend has bought the chess set at the Harrods (Knightsbridge).
The chess set that my friend had bought was £299(Receipt http://hazing7701.web.infoseek.co.jp/harai.jpg ) and a product of the company Named JAQUES.
I received this chess set from my friend who came back to Japan.
I was very surprised to see this chess set.

The friend and I requested the exchange (a black queen -> a black king) to Harrods.
My friends and I contacted Harrods many times in the web mail, international phone calls, E-Mail (Mail_1 http://hazing7701.web.infoseek.co.jp/mail_1.jpg ), and the international mail (Mail_2 http://hazing7701.web.infoseek.co.jp/mail_2.jpg ).
However, even if two months pass, Harrods doesn't contact anything to us.
For this case, how does the British behave?

NO not as a rule, but keep writing to them, also write to owner and complain about your problem, also write to newspapers as big companies like to think that they are above the law, and try anything rather than help.

What you need to do is actually to write to Harrods to highlight your problem, send your photographs and this will be enough to kick the process off. If you have problems with them, no response etc, then contact the Citizen's Advice people via web who will help you sort t out. However I find it unlikely that Harrods will ignore a letter.

You need to get on the phone to there customer service people and get some firm commitment from them. Idealy you would hand the goods in to them and request a replacement set or alternativly a refund. If you bought using credit or debit card then the refund needs to go on the card. This is difficult to do from international location i know. I doubt very much if they would take teh trouble to go find you a king and send to you! Poor customer service but only because you can not speak in person.
Is there a makers name on the chess set? If so contact the maker and ask if they can exchange the Queen for a King. If you require assistance you could e-mail me.

You should NOT be embarassed!
You paid £299 for a chess set that has a wrong piece in it and it is your right to get it exchanged.
Go onto the Harrods website to get their telephone number and ask to be put through to the department that sells that chess set. Tell them what is wrong. If your English is not very good then email them with the information you have given here.
It is their duty to correct this mistake. Dont let them get away with selling you wrong things.

I found the best way to get this resolved is to write a letter to the owner describing the poor service you have experienced in such a high status store.
Mark the envelope "Private and confidential" and send it via some sort of recordable post,so someone has to sign for the letter.
I promise you will get a reply.

They should have responded to you quickly! It should have been sorted out by now, that's really bad customer service which I wouldn't expect from Harrods.

if harrods have failed to respond to your emails or contacts the credit supplier will act on your behalf contact them in your home country and explain the issue to them. you are protected under the U.K consumer credit act 1974 as the goods are clearly not as described or fit for its purpose.
