Well, it's true that he's gained weight much faster than the weight curve. My daughter was at the other side of the curve, not gaining like it showed, but at 1yr she was exactly right on. I'd be careful on what sort of food you are giving him (and 4mths is early to start...) making sure it's fruits and veggies and not yogurt, potatoes, or other foods that are high in calories. Let him play a lot on the floor, and he shall hopefully burn off his extra weight when he starts to crawl and walk.

My daughter was born at 10 lbs 8 oz and now weights just over 20 lbs (at almost 9 months). She did gain a lot of weight early on, but has really levelled off the last few months. Your son probably is just going through some growth spurts and there is probably nothing wrong. We started solids at 4 months too.
When feeding be careful not to try to over feed or "finish off the bottle" or bowl of cereal. I will only give my daughter what she wants, when she's done, she's done. That way, she will learn to eat until she is full and not to stuff herself with extras. Appetite control can be a problem with formula fed babies, so try not to stuff too much.

They have their charts and they have had them for years, believe me. There is no standard chart when raising a child, yeah they say don't start cereal until 4 months, but if this baby, who was almost 9lbs at birth, can not be maintained on just formula and you are up every 2 to 3 hours, give that baby some cereal and feel at ease that your child is not starving. He was not a little baby and he is not going to be a little child, just nod and agree with the doctor, but as long as you know you aren't hurting your child, which you have to live with and whom you are the mother of, you do what you have to do. God Bless.

There is no "normal" weight, all babies grow at different rates. So "people" say he's fat...so what? Obviously the doctor doesn't think there is a problem and HE would know since he is your child's doctor..Stop worrying about what other people think, He's not a male model, he's a growing baby

I think your baby is just fine and you should not be thinking about his weight as anything but a number.
The more important skill is to learn how to watch him for signs that he is hungry and/or full. If he closes his mouth tightly, it means he doesn't want any more and you shouldn't try to get him to finish one more spoonful. If he sticks his hands in him mouth and makes excited noises about sitting in the highchair, it means he is still hungry.
When he starts to self-feed with his fingers, at all costs, avoid giving him any junk food or foods high in sugar, fat or salt. I've even heard of some mothers giving their babies crisps, chips or things like that to feed themselves. Raisins, cereal and other very nutritious finger foods are much, much better.

My son was almost 9 lbs. when he was born. Now he's 8 years old and slim and trim. He runs around and does things like there's no tomorrow. I call him Whoosh boy lol, Your baby will be fine. He'll get a growth spurt and become possibly huskier but in a muscular sort of way or he could become like my son and run off everything he eats. You can't tell what they'll turn out to be and that's the beauty of having children, what you mold them to be that's what they'll be.

Babies grow at differently. I can't remember how much my daughter weighed at 5 months but I do remember everyone commenting on how big she was. She was very tall for her age and she too ate like there was no tomorrow :). If your son is healthy and the doctor is not worried about his weight, then relax and enjoy your little chunky monkey.

there is niothing wrong with that weight it's not fat at all. if you know your baby is healthy and you know that you aren't doing anything wrong then don't worry about it. as long as he isn't sat there with chocolate and crisp all of the time (which i'm sure he's not) then there is no risk of him getting malnutrition. a bigger baby looks a lot better than a skiny baby that looks like they aren't being fed. if you know that you are doing the best job that you can, just reply to people by saying, god yeah he eats loads, it's hard to fill him.
