thank you so much, i'm tired of everyone talking about how amazing this movie was. it was predictable and i could have just watched the trailer and saved my 10 dollars. also, it is a true story but in real life he made a 1000 a month, which adjusted for time is 2200 dollars. Not alot, but certainly more than a lot of struggling families make today

I was dragged to the theatre to see this one. My god what a depressing film. So tired of people saying it is a beautiful story of one man's struggle for success (which apparently means happiness). These movies have been done to death. And Will Smith and his happy/smart @ss/perfect husband attitude is seriously getting on my nerves.

Oh and it was "inspired" on a true story, not "based". So this means that the only commonalities between the film and the real thing could be as trivial as his job.

Just my thoughts.

No - I watched it last night and loved it! It did end quite abrupty but I guess most people wanna see him in his new life with a fancy house and car - but this is based on a true story and so Chris Gardner (being the exec producer as well) obviously meant that the point of telling the story was the means, not the end.

If you don't have high expectations you're never disappointed.

that depends on where you set your threshold of expectations and then how you experienced it from that vantage.
I went and saw it and didnt expect much at all.
I thought it was great. It rose above my expectations. It was believable and I was sold into the characters. What more can you ask of a movie?
Extra sweet is reading that little crud at the end where they tell you its a true story more or less.
