It depends it you are talking about a laptop or a desktop.

If it is a laptop then you may need the exact same motherboard in order for everything to fit back together.

If its a desktop then no - any other manufacturer should fit. However there are a couple of points to remember.

Check that the stand off pins can be moved to line up with your new board. If not you could have a problem in that you might short out the new board and cause it to fail.

You will need to know the old CPU socket type so you can get the same one so the processor fits the new board. You will also need to confirm that the new board can support the speed of the CPU.

Check the RAM type as well to ensure this will also fit the new board.

Finally make sure that the new board will support your drives as a lot of new boards only support SATA drives (small connector)now rather than the older IDE (large two row of pins) type

Also you need to confirm that it either has on board graphics or can support your graphics card as a lot of new boards only support PCI express rather than AGP.

To be honest you may find that you have to update the entire system the speed at which standards and specifications change now.

Good Luck and I hope this works for you.

You should get full installation instructions with the new board.

BE CAREFUL. Dell is notorious for make proprietary parts(or having manufacturers make them proprietary) and not tell the consumer. The psu and gpu are made exclusively for dell with a change in pins and connectors so im sure the mobo has been modified to Dell specifications. In other words, if you change the mobo, you may have to change other components as well.

the answer to your question is no you can't install another motherboard into a dell case. I have tried several times in it can't be done. the wiring in the case is not compatible with other motherboards.

It is the same with Compaq, HP, their cases only fit the the motherboards made for them tat is to make sure you only buy parts from the manufactures

Yes you can use another company but you need to take care of 3 things
1) the mother should be compatible with the processor you have
2) should be compatible with the the memory you have
3) and the most important is it should fit the size so that it can sit exactly the way it was before
because you get different sizes

Good Luck

No, you can use another motherboard. You need to make sure the the RAM and CPU you are using are compatible with the board, and you may need to change jumpers.

You can use another brand that is compatible. Please do not attempt to change your motherboard if you are not competent enough because you might end up buying a new computer.Good-luck
