Why is it that some mornings you just wake up with something in your head, despite having not listened to it for days??

I wish I knew too, because it happens to me all the time.

Sometimes a song going around in my head keeps me awake and drives me nuts!

Sometimes just a word will start off the song and then it's there for days!

And often I wake up with one like you that I haven't heard forever!?!

The only good thing about it is, one day I heard a bit of a song that I remembered from my childhood, then forgot about and later wished I could recall it as I wanted to see if I could buy it somewhere. I could not remember anything about it , not the words, the band, or the title. But WEEKS later I woke up with it in my head! Because of that I was able to get a copy from ebay. :o)

Im not really sure cuz i wonder that myself sometimes...but i think its just because, its in our memory somewhere, and just like the mood we wake up in, there isnt really an explaination to why a specific song is stuck in our head at any given time...i think its just something that comes from the subconscious. So if we were to somehow be able to really concentrate very hard and figure out what we are subconsciously thinking about at that very moment, then we could probably figure out what reminded us of that particular song.

Just a theory though. :)

Yes memory does play in this. When we first heard that song we probally didn't have too much on our mind or had so much that the song triggers a memory we had. In any event yes the song goes on and on. I work in a school with handicapped kids. For about 20 yrs. I have had "Baby Beluga" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and the like playing in my mind at the strangest times.

Just a regular brushup of the brain cells by the brains, brings it in front and you start humming it throughout the day.
