Yaffle - full name Augustus Barclay Yaffle is definitely a Woodpecker and lived with Bagpuss in the shop along with Gabrielle the toad, the mice on the marvellous mechanical mouse organ and Madelline the doll ahh the memories!

He looks like a secretary bird to me.This would fit into the roll he plays.Yes definately a secretary bird!
