Generally speaking the owner of a fence is the owner of the land where the posts which support the fence are placed. In practice neignbours generally agree that fences are shared property and that each is resposible for their side.

This is for you and the chap next door to decide as there is no way of knowing for sure. Which side the fence posts are situated makes no difference whatsoever and the Land Registry cannot tell you who owns the fence either. Ownership, and/or responsibility for a fence is sometimes mentioned in the deeds to the property but maintenance cannot be enforced as to maintain a fence cost money and you may not have any and so the law cannot make you do something you physically cannot do.
Take to the chap next door.

If you are in the UK the Land Registry entry may show the boundary responsibility on the site plan if it was included in the original title deeds. The marker looks like a tennis racquet shape and if it is on your side on the drawing then you fix the fence.
However, the commonsense approach would be to negotiate with the neghbour and share the work or cost. If this is not possible and it is in your interests then do the work anyway after seeking permission from them to do so. No one turns down a free upgrade.

If the purlings and the strats show your side then it is yours. However if the fence is flush your side then it is your neightbours.
Fences can cause problems between neighbours especially if the fence has been there for years and badly in need of repair. Sometimes in such cases the person who does not own the fence takes the intiative and repairs it, as a safety precaution against children and pets getting out through holes in the fence etc.
Best check on the deeds of your property to be sure.
Hope it's theirs, but then the one on the right will be yours...duh?.

You have to check your title deeds to find out exactly who owns what. Usually, you own the fence on one side of the garden and your adjacent neighbour owns the other but you have to check the deeds to find out which side is yours.
In answer to Kayte, the right one is ours and the left one is the neighbour's

Ours is on the left, but looking at the other answers I think it would be best to check on the plans and deeds to your house.

I really would like to say who owns it.
Go to your local town office, and ask to see your plans.
It will say on there.
Mine on the left, next door on the right

Usually the one with the support brackets on their side of the fence. If unsure why not ask your neighbours or whoever you bought the property from.

It depends on who paid for it. If it was already there when you each moved in, then look at the fence and see who it faces. The back of the fence faces the owner. The front, more attractive side, faces outward.

Tricky !
Ususally, the fence belongs to whoever has the POSTS in their garden.
You may have to check yr deeds to find where the boundaries start/finish.
