The way I see it every emotion experienced is eventually counter-acted by and equal and opposite counter-emotion.
And of course physical pain is counter-acted by the pleasure gained from the relief of the pain.

The human mind makes it this way...if you get your penis chopped off I'd bet it'd feel pretty ****** good once the pain starts subsiding.

an orgasm is basically the "relief" of your desire caused by your sex drive...wouldn't you call going a few months without an orgasm "suffering"?

I'd like to think I experience more pleasure than pain, but if I'm to be honest, 1:1 might be more realistic. :(

In an ideal world, karmic justice of this nature would prevail. I think there are clear examples in the world of reasons this could not be true. Many suffer without joy, feel pain with no release. Some would say that our minds perspective can have a profound effect on the seemingly random occurances that life offers us. Perhaps then, it is when one can be optimistic and take something positive from every experience, good or bad, that he can acheive this balance. In that case, I would say yes. Some people might find this to be the case, but I don't believe it is true for everyone.

Personally I don't have this ratio, my pleasure is much higher. I am happy and content almost every day, which I believe counts as pleasure. I expect good things in life, and they come to me. Perhaps later in life I will have 22 years of sadness...but I doubt it :)
If you mean physical pleaure and suffering, I also disagree, for example an orgasm is all pleasure, no pain.

Are you suggesting that if I hate someone there will come a time that I will grow to love them; hate and love being emotions? or vice-versa?
I smashed my hand with a hammer earlier tonight and received pain for my error but the pain went away, it did not turn to pleasure. Actually, I just now remembered having done so.

pleasure is seperate from suffering unless you get pleasure from suffering or the other way around.
They are not direcly linked and you are seeing it wrong.
If your Penis gets cut off how do you get relief?
