well its obvious isnt it, if you rip someone off yes you can get in trouble. When doing fraudulent activity through the mail or wire transfers , it then becomes a federal crime. If he has her pay pal acoount name , thats all the police or fbi needs . they can get all the rest of the info from pay pal, such as her full name address, ph number ect. If i was your friend i would be sending the money back asap, or she could face some serious charges. This type of fraud is not taken lightly and if found guilty she will without a doubt get 2-5 years in a federal prison. She conned this man and took his money under false premises, she will have a difficult time fighting this, it all depends on if the guy actually turned her in or not. Is she willing to take that risk.
On another note I think you should take a serious look at who your friends are. Are they all scam artists and thieves? Be carefull.

Thats a serious crime. Alot of people have done that in the past before. Women do this with older men. They fraud them out of thousands of dollars. She can get into a lot of trouble about this. She can go to jail. And yes there is such a thing of the police fraud unit. And if all tunr up well she will either have to do some community service or pay the man back his money. Fraud is a serious crime. A woman did the same thing over the internet and she is now facing 15 to 25 years in prison. But she got much more than that she got over 50 thousand dollars from him. it was in teh new york times. I would tell your friend that she should get a hold of him through tthe internet again and tell him not to press chargers and she will give him the money back and if he does press chargers than shes lookin at some time.

Hi there !!!
The answer to your question is a definite YES !!!!
You say your friend scammed some lonely guy? Honey run like the wind away from this girlfriend of yours, remember that old saying, " tell me who you walk with, and i will tell you who you are", this is so true. I am not saying you are a scam artist, just be careful , get away from this negative influence.
it is terrible to scam someone. No matter what the circumstance. Your friend needs some help, medical and as well as from the law.
What goes around , comes around, law of karma. She spent the money ? Well she will be in a lot of trouble if he goes after her and they catch her, which i believe they can. If they were corresponding through emails, each computer has its own IP address, so they will know from where the letters were coming from, and you said he has her paypal information, well she should give this guy back his money, and be honest about this whole thing, ignoring it will not make it go away.
It is sad she used someone like this, be careful she does not do the same with you.
wishing you mental clarity to deal with this
Love light and peace

Honey, you're cheating on your husband. You're not happy at home. If you were, you wouldn't be so lonely and unfulfilled that a total stranger is filling a void in your life. Be careful. People can say anything over the net. It's easy to idealize someone you've never met. But the fact that you are turning to him for intimacy and are sharing private sexual details of your marriage is cheating. YOu may not have actually slept with him yet, but you know damn well if your husband knew what the two of you have really been talking about, he wouldn't be happy at all. Would you be upset if it were your husband doing the exact same thing with a woman? Of course you would! So take a hint from me--don't do this. You say you guys have built a great life for yourselves, so if this is true, then don't destroy or chance destroying everything you have with your husband with a crush online. Any time you turn outside your marriage for something that you're missing is a form of cheating is how I view it. The time you spend chatting with him is time you've taken from your husband. You don't say if you have kids, but I bet you do. Don't do this. These things never end well. Be honorable and remember those vows you took in front of God and your friends and family.

The outcome will depend on his tenacity and resources. If he has the funds, he can hire a private eye to find her and he can prove he sent her money but received no services. She can be prosecuted for fraud. He has all the proof needed since they communicated online. It may be a federal offense. If so, there will be hell to pay. They'll go after her with the dogs because a person like that is dangerous.

He can only sue her for the money. It's up to a judge.
Where does she live that it would cost 500 to drive to texas?
I'd be worried the guy would do something besides go to the police.
