you will only produce what you need, it wont go sour. just make sure you taper you feedings off, so your breasts don't get engorged

You mean directly feeding from the breast? Not pumped milk?

No.....the milk will not go bad in your breasts. Breastmilk is made on demand when your child nurses. It is impossible for the milk to go bad/sour in your body.

You'll want to cut back slowly though or you're likely to get uncomfortably engorged. Cut out one feeding about every 5 days and replace it with a bottle. This will be gentler on your body and a gentler transition for your child.

ETA:
It is NOT pointless to only nurse a couple of times per day. EVERY DROP of breastmilk is a benefit to your child.

No, dont worry at all about there being anything wrong with breastmilk... but like others say, supply could become a problem if you arent nursing more often than once or twice a day. I was able to nurse twice a day for several months, in the morning and late afternoon, for my 1yr old without any problems.

Milk can change colors, no worries! As for being sick, keep nursing. You make antibodies to germs every time you nurse, then pass them to your son. Cool huh? That is why statistically speaking, breastfed babies are healthier than formula fed babies. He may get sick, but the BEST thing to do is nurse nurse nurse. My toddler breastfeeds still, and is rarely sick. When she is, it's mild, and gone in a flash!! Just a couple months back, my husband and I were down for several days with an awful stomach bug. She threw up too, but only in the span of 3 hours, and the next day was perky and back to normal!!!!! LOL!! I almost wanted someone to nurse ME so I didn't feel so sick! haha

Your milk cannot go bad in your breasts.

But you should know that breastmilk supply is based upon breastmilk demand. If you stop nursing in favor of formula feeding, your milk production will slow and you may find yourself unable to nurse at all.

Let me say, nursing once or twice a day, or even pumping that often is pointless. If you want to formula feed, then formula feed. Don't feel guilty. If you don't express milk regular you will dry up anyway. You will find it harder and harder, and get less & less in a short time. (speaking from experence).

NO, IT WON'T GO SOUR. BREASTS MAKE MILK ON DEMAND EACH TIME YOUR BABY EATS.

I can't express enough how great information from Le Leche League is!!! I read the book, The womanly art of breastfeeding, and it was great! you can get the book online or just about anywhere you get other baby stuff....

REMEMBER, BREAST IS ALWAYS BEST!!!

also, contact your local le leche league group! they can be an enourmous support system for you!

Good Luck!!!!

The milk that is in your breasts will not go bad, no. Is there a reason why you're cutting down your feedings?

Breast milk is your own product and it can't be spolied, simply go on feeding.
